The effect of structural defects on the optical parameters of germanium crystals

Abstract

Samples of germanium crystals grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method have large scatter of the transmittance in the transparency region. Along with samples whose transmittance is as good as that of crystals obtained by the Czochralski method, part of the samples have significant absorption, associated with hole transitions. The presence of the latter is ascribed to significant plastic deformation of the crystals. © 2003 Optical Society of America
