Abstract

1178nm ytterbium-doped photonic bandgap fiber amplifier with strictly amplified-spontaneous-emission-free, 167W output has been achieved with 61% slope efficiency. Single pass frequency doubling to 14.5W 589nm light was also demonstrated with 34% conversion efficiency.
