Photonic integrated WDM Cross-connects for Disaggregated Optical Metro-Access Networks

Abstract

We present a disaggregated optical metro node architecture that exploits photonic WDM cross-connect switches for interconnecting network elements as well as computing and storage resources. The lossless photonic WDM cross-connect node based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) allows to switch multiple format data signals in wavelength, space, and time for full flexibility and statistical multiplexing, scalability of the interconnected network elements as well as capacity.
