Abstract
Single-longitudinal-mode output as great as 1 mJ has been obtained from a grating-tuned Nd:YVO4 laser pumped by a quasi-cw laser-diode array. A simple cavity design containing a diffraction grating at a high angle of incidence has permitted the output to be tuned over a wavelength range of greater than 1 nm. High optical losses at the grating are compensated for by use of a high-gain transverse pumping scheme and a single high-angle-of-incidence reflection within the Nd:YVO4 bar.
