Perspectives in Biology and Medicine

PERSPECTIVES WRITING AWARD RULES Perspectives in Biology and Medicine will offer an award of $500 for the best essay submitted in competition and received by the editorial office between January 1, 1975 and September 30, 1975. To be eligible for the award the writer must be 35 years of age or younger as of September 30, 1975. Essays will be judged by the editorial office and the editorial and advisory boards of the journal on the basis of originality, the merit of ideas, and literary style. Any biomedical subject will qualify. Research reports and literature reviews will not be considered. Essays are not to exceed 7,500 words and cannot have been previously published. They must conform to Perspectives' style (see "Note to Contributors "). Three copies in English must be submitted (typed doublespaced ), and a self-addressed, stamped envelope must be enclosed to assure return of the manuscript. Authors must state that the essay is submitted with the intent ofcompeting for the award; a briefcurriculum vitae should be enclosed. Coauthorship is possible provided no coauthor is ineligible because of age. Winning coauthors will share the $500 award. The winner will be announced and the essay published in the spring 1976 issue ofPerspectives. In case of a tie, the $500 award will be divided equally. Each competing essay will be considered as an invited article and judged for publication after the spring 1976 number. Early submission is encouraged.
