This essay explores the relation between ontology and ethics through a close reading of Martin Heidegger’s essay “Language” in dialogue with Luce Irigaray’s The Way of Love. It demonstrates how, for Irigaray, the ontological and linguistic occurrence of sexuate difference simultaneously constitutes the announcement of humanity’s foremost ethical task.
