G. W. STEPHEN BRODSKY is author of Joseph Conrad's Polish Soul (2016); his articles and reviews on Conrad (including a review of the Cambridge Edition of Last Essays) have appeared in Conradiana, The Conradian, Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives, Joseph Conrad Today, the Jagiellonian University Conrad Year Book Modern Fiction Studies, and Zwischen Ost und West: Joseph Conrad im europäischen Gespräch. His work in military literary culture and Renaissance Drama includes Gentlemen of the Blade: A Social and Literary History of the British Army Since 1660 (1989), military memoirs, and articles in drama criticism.

VIRGINIA BUTLER's major areas of research are narrative theory, Victorian literature and the transition into modernism, gender, race, and sexuality. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Maryland, College Park.

IRA NADEL, Professor of English at the University of British Columbia, has published Biography: Fiction, Fact & Form, Joyce and the Jews and Modernism's Second Act, in addition to biographies of Leonard Cohen, Tom Stoppard, and David Mamet. He has also edited The Cambridge Companion to Ezra Pound and Ezra Pound in Context. His essay on comedy in Eichmann in Jerusalem has recently appeared in Clio. He is currently completing a critical life of Philip Roth.

MERRY M. PAWLOWSKI is the editor of Virginia Woolf and Fascism: Resisting the Dictators' Seduction (Palgrave, 2001). Her work on both Woolf and Conrad has appeared in several edited collections and journals, including issues of Modern Fiction Studies, Woolf Studies Annual, and volumes in Eastern European Monographs. She is an Emeritus Professor of English at California State University, Bakersfield.

CEDRIC WATTS served in the Royal Navy, took his first-class BA in English at Cambridge University, and is currently Professor Emeritus at Sussex University. He has written seven books on Conrad and his works, and has edited [End Page 97] eleven volumes of material by Conrad. His novel Final Exam (by 'Peter Green') has been praised by Ian McEwan.

JARICA WATTS is Assistant Professor of English at Brigham Young University. She specializes in early twentieth-century British literature, particularly the short fiction of World War I. Watts has published work on Chinua Achebe, Zadie Smith, James Joyce, Joseph Conrad, Radclyffe Hall, and D.H. Lawrence. She is also editor of the book collection, Here Lies Lalo, which brings into the prominence the works of Chicano poet Abelardo "Lalo" Delgado.

JOYCE WEXLER is Professor of English at Loyola University Chicago. She is the author of Violence without God: The Rhetorical Dilemma of Twentieth-Century Writers (2016); Who Paid for Modernism? Art, Money, and the Fiction of Conrad, Joyce, and Lawrence (1997); Laura Riding: A Bibliography (1981); and Laura Riding's Pursuit of Truth (1979); as well as essays on Conrad, Lawrence, and Eliot.
