This essay examines two works of Confederate children’s literature that represent girls fighting the Civil War on the home front. Using historical sources to contextualize home front experiences, this essay argues that these texts preserve antebellum expectations for girls, which positions girls’ domestic work as crucial for the Confederacy’s success.
