Abstract: For optimizing the parameters of high voltage direct current transmission(HVDC) control system, we proposed a novel method based on PSCAD-MATLAB combined invocation. The possibility and basic principle of the combined invocation were discussed, and then the main optimizing procedure was described in detail. On the basis of the CIGRE HVDC benchmark model, we optimized the PI controller parameters of constant current control system at rectifier side by using the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm. Comparison between the primary parameters, parameters optimized by the optimal method based on transfer function, and parameters optimized by combined invocation based on the proposed method indicates that the proposed method effectively optimizes the parameters in the control system and improves both the systems transient and steady state performances through reflecting the actual performance of HVDC system accurately. The high global searching ability of the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm contributes to the improvement greatly. The proposed method is a valid reference for optimization of HVDC control systems.
