Abstract: The qualities of carburizied gears of 17Cr2Ni2 MoVNb and 20Cr2Ni4 A steel were investigated by means of microstructure observation and hardness test. The fatigue life of spur gears made from two different materials was tested by PLG-300 C tensile-compress test machine. The results show that the values of case depth and microhardness of loading direction of tooth root are two important parameters for the bending fatigue life. The fatigue life can be reduced with a case depth that is too small. While with the microhardness of tooth increasing the fatigue life of gear tooth can be increased at the same load condition. But the surface decarbonization of tooth flank( ≤0. 2 mm) is unimportant parameter for bending fatigue life compared with case depth or microhardness.
