Abstract: It was analyzed the distortional buckling of the C and Z sections under bending. In the current Australian and American codes the thin-walled member theory is used to analyze the distortional buckling loads. In this method a reduced restraining rigidity of web to flange is adopted because such a model overestimates the rigidity of flange-lip section. It was derived the formulas to calculate restraining rigidities of web to flange,by using the equivalent bending rigidity of the lip,as well as the theory of plate element, which were used to calculate the local and distortional bucklings of flange-lip sections, whose results were compared with those of FEM,by which the buckling factors had excellent accuracy, and they were on the safe side.
