Abstract: Objective: To observe acupuncture enhancing clinical effects of SSRIs antidepressants treating depression,as well as regulating the balance of inflammatory cytokines. Methods: 90 patients with depression were randomly divided into the drug group and the acupuncture-drug group, treated for 4 consecutive weeks. In the different treatment time points, the two groups’ HMAD ratings, markedly effective rate, total efficiency and SERS ratings were respectively evaluated to assess acupuncture enhancing clinical effects of SSRIs antidepressants treating depression, and the normal group was established. The changes of two groups in the concentration of inflammatory cytokines before and after treatment were observed. Results: HAMD score of 1,2 and 4 weeks after treatment in the acupuncture-drug group was significantly lower compared to that of the drug group( P < 0. 01). SERS score of 1,2 and 4 weeks after treatment of acupuncture group was significantly lower compared to that of the drug group( P < 0. 01). The markedly effective rate and the total efficiency after four weeks in the acupuncture-drug group was significantly higher compared to that of the drug group( P < 0. 01).After four weeks treatment,IL-1,IL-6,IL-4,IL-10 concentrations in the acupuncture group and drug group had significantly statistical difference( P < 0. 05,P < 0. 01). Drug group and the normal group had statistically significant difference( P < 0. 01). The acupuncture-drug group didn’t have statistically significant difference compared with normal group( P > 0. 05),and IL-4 concentration in the two groups was also similar. Conclusion: Acupuncture can effectively and quickly enhance the clinical effects of SSRI antidepressants treating depression and regulate the balance of inflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory cytokines.
