Prospective,Multi-centered,Randomized and Controlled Trial on Effect of Shenhuang Ointment in Promoting Rehabilitation of Postoperative Gastrointestinal Dysfunction with Syndrome of Stagnation of Qi and Blood StasisChinese Full Text

Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect and safety of Chinese compound Shenhuang Ointment（ SO） in promoting rehabilitation of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction with syndrome of stagnation of Qi and blood stasis（ QBS）.Methods: A prospective,multi-centered,randomized,double-blinded,controlled trial was conducted in 220 postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients after gastrointestinal surgery of QBS syndrome,who were randomly assigned to two groups treated with SO and placebo for 1 week after operation. The time of exhaust,defecate,recovery of intestinal peristalsis,the change of TCM syndrome score,the serum levels of motilin（ MOT） and somatostatin（ SS） and the adverse reaction were observed. Results: Compared with group of placebo,the time of exhaust,defecate,recovery of intestinal peristalsis were shift to an earlier date,and the TCM syndrome scores decreased significantly in SO treated group（ P ＜ 0. 05 or P ＜0. 01）. The level of MOT was raised and SS was decreased significantly on the fifth day after operation in SO treated group（ P ＜0.05）. There was no significant difference in all the above parameters between the two groups. In addition,no severe adverse event was found. Conclusion: SO treatment showed effects in rehabilitation of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction and increasing patient’s degree of comfort,and could be well tolerated by patients.
