A considerable amount of p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid was isolated from the culture filtrate of Hypochnus sasakii.
p-Hydroxyphenylacetic acid induced wilt of soybean plant and retarded the growth of rice seedlings at concentrations up to 1:20, 000. The O2 uptake in roots decreased in proportion to reduction of dry weight of rice seedlings.
