Abstract

(1S)-[1-²H]-sn-Glycerol (1a) was obtained in three steps from (6S)-[6-²H]-1, 6-anhydro-β-D-galactopyranose and converted to the (1R)-isomer (1b) via an S_N2 reaction of a 1-O-methanesulfonylated derivative. The ¹H and ¹³C-NMR spectra well characterized their structure and stereo-chemistry.
