Abstract

It is well known that the ion temperatures observed in reversed field pinches (RFP) cannot be adequately explained in terms of classical collisional heat transfer from the electron population. In this note we argue that the omnipresent dynamo fluctuations of an RFP can lead, via parallel ion viscosity, to a distributed heat source that can in principle balance the ion energy confinement loss.
