ABSTRACT

The aggregation and analysis of massive datasets has brought many valuable developments. The healthcare sector is extensively targeted by ransomware because the longer it takes to pay, the more compromised the health of patients becomes. The largest, single healthcare data breach so far is the 2015 hack of Anthem Inc., where nearly 80 million personal records of former and current US policyholders were stolen. The idea of privacy is not always easy to articulate because of its dynamic and context-dependent nature. Privacy matters for many different reasons, including our right to put a limit on government and corporate power, the management of one's reputation and healthy social boundaries, our right to change and be given second chances, freedom of speech as well as non-discrimination on grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation and political views. Personal data is stored in the EU in Amazon Web Services and Google cloud servers located in Luxembourg and Ireland, respectively.
