ABSTRACT

At this time, in the United States began a link with industry, and the creation of industrial research laboratories and industries based on physics research ensued. A huge amount of money was given to research. In this atmosphere, anybody who had a good idea that potentially could lead to applications had the quasi-certainty of nding adequate support to develop it. is ideal environment lasted for the entire wartime period and continued during the Cold War between the United States and Russia until the 1970s. In this period, the development of masers and lasers was helped in America through the interest of both military agencies and industry, which were receiving nancial support at a level never seen before. An excellent discussion of this situation has been made by Lisa Bromberg.1
