ABSTRACT

The field of sports nutrition has become increasingly popular, but much of the information presented to the general public is in the form of marketing hype rather than scientific evidence. As a result, information is often presented in a manner to convince potential consumers that supplements provide performance gains that are not physiologically possible. Therefore, medical and allied health professionals, coaches and consumers such as masters athletes must be aware of products/ ingredients that are present within supposed ergogenic aids in order to make informed decisions before purchasing products that are unlikely to provide a performance benefit.
