ABSTRACT

Additive manufacturing (AM) is significantly growing and becoming very popular over the last few decades. It has a vast application that covers almost every field. The periodic evaluation of AM presents inherent differences associated with each AM technique. One of the critical differences is the selection of materials. The appropriate material is an essential criterion in determining the performance of the fabricated part. The material selection includes producing the feedstock in a suitable form for use in different AM processes to create desirable geometry. AM has different classes of materials based on the phase of material, type of process, and application. This chapter focuses on gathering the information associated with different types of AM materials i.e., polymers, metals, ceramics, and their composites. Furthermore, new advancements have also been considered, including the development and types of smart materials. Overall, this chapter presents various types of AM materials and the challenges associated with the materials.
