ABSTRACT

From the beginning, agriculture has had an irreplaceable place in human life. Many civilizations have used numerous innovations for different purposes for centuries, such as pesticides for crop protection, fertilizers and irrigation systems for yield improvement, and postharvest handling practices for quality preservation. Technology, which develops day by day and greatly affects human life, also has had an influence on agriculture. Today, all the possibilities of technology are used to find better solutions to the problems encountered in agriculture. Some of the important examples of these solutions are non-destructive methods for leaf analysis, automatic irrigation and fertilization systems (based on the actual needs of crops) and intelligent systems for pest identification, monitoring product quality during storage, etc. The technologies of these solutions include IoT (Internet of Things), cloud computing, WSN (wireless sensor networks), and AI (artificial intelligence). This chapter examines the uses and effects of technology in agriculture. In line with the academic studies and analyses, the methods of using technology in postharvest crop protection are examined, and new ideas are put forward accordingly.
