ABSTRACT

A conversational dialogue system (chatbot) is a computer application that uses various functions and algorithms from the natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI) models. The purpose of the chatbot is to simulate human conversation through voice commands or text chats or both of them. Nowadays, the chatbot has taken multiple roles in different educational and academic sectors such as teaching, motivating and advising students. Moreover, universities use the chatbot for student admission and orientation process, which can enhance the students’ experiences in schools and universities for both prospective and incoming students. However, the researchers and developers are working hard on state-of-the-art algorithms and neural network models in order improve the user experience with AI chatbots. Although, not all universities and colleges use a generative or AI chatbot as some use rule-based chatbot or task-oriented dialogue system. This paper highlights the main challenges in using various types of conversational chatbots as educational and academic advisers.
