ABSTRACT

One of the concrete reasons for the cause of accidents is due to factors related to drivers. If drivers are provided with some sort of assistance accidents can be reduced by a significant number. The thought of the same gave rise to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicle (AV) with the help of the latest technological advancements such as radar, LiDAR, cameras, and sensors. ADAS provides the assistance required to prevent the vehicles from accidents or crashes. The article discusses driver operational behaviour adaptation for driver assistance system and cognitive behaviour adaptation system necessary for accepting the system and to successful implementation of system. This chapter discusses how the human factors, cognitive bias, driving behaviour, heuristics exhibited by the drivers can be a hindrance to get equipped with these modern systems. The proclivity for using these systems is not just dependent on advancements of the technology but also on the driver’s cognition to use it which is overlooked.
