ABSTRACT

This chapter continues the discussion of the business cloud models. It explains how a large company can use cloud technology internally to form a private cloud data center. It also describes public cloud providers who sell cloud services and the multi-tenant clouds they run, an approach that influences many of the cloud technologies, cloud management, and security systems covered in later chapters. The chapter compares the advantages and disadvantages of public and private clouds, and explains the concept of hybrid cloud. It discusses lock-in, and explains why some customers adopt a multi-cloud approach. The chapter concludes by explaining the incredible growth of hyperscaler cloud companies.
