ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology, the science as well as the art of manipulating matter at atomic or nanoscale (1 nm = 10–9 m) is cutting edge technologies in agricultural sciences. Nanotechnological interventions in increasing input use efficiencies, decontamination of toxicants, manipulating genetic materials, increasing shelf life of harvested produce and production of quality planting materials may lead to sustainable agricultural production. Nanoscience and nanotechnology unit of BAU, since its inception is engaged in developing novel agrochemicals with an intelligent delivery system as well as human resource development (UG and PG teaching and research in Nanotechnology in Agriculture). Novel nanopolymeric hydrogel, nanoformulation of P, Zn, Fe, chitosan, Ag, and Cu have been developed and evaluated under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. Field evaluation of novel nanomoleclues for benefit:cost ratio and multi-location field trials are underway.
