ABSTRACT

Additive manufacturing (AM) processes constitute an important class of manufacturing technology advancement. There is a huge spectrum of applications of additively manufactured parts which can chiefly be attributed to the development and improvement of AM processes. AM is particularly suitable for applications in producing complex shaped geometrical components as compared to conventional manufacturing techniques. One of the highly promising areas of AM is the aerospace industry. The ability of AM to manufacture lightweight parts is the most appealing advantage of AM for the aerospace industry. The components/parts utilized in the aerospace industry manufactured via various techniques should match the absolute target properties to ensure safety. The application of AM in aerospace is not only for manufacturing of newer parts but also in repair type of work for aircraft engine parts. Shorter development cycle, less weight of developed product, reduced wastage of material and considerably lower manufacturing cost involved with AM techniques make it a suitable candidate for automotive applications.
