Abstract:
Abstract: A territorial planning can widely be established to integrate the functional zoning, urban and rural land use for the sustainable management of natural resources. A classification system of new patterns in the territorial space can enable better economic and environmental outcomes from the management in modern agriculture. However, some previous studies cannot consider the functional attributes of territorial space in the quantitative analysis. Taking the Qionglai City in Sichuan Province of China as an example, this study aims to conduct a new classification system for county-level territorial space using the spatiotemporal heterogeneity and dynamic coupling between land use and superior functionality. A spatiotemporal analysis was also made using the q-statistic method from both land cover and land functionality perspectives. The results showed that: 1) There was the spatiotemporal heterogeneity in the superior territorial space functions of land use in the study area during 2010-2020. There was also the coupling spatial distribution between land use and the superior territorial space functions. Moreover, there was the temporal heterogeneity for the degree of coupling, and the structure of the territorial space functions corresponding to the land use types. Therefore, it is highly necessary to consider the spatiotemporal heterogeneity in the superior territorial space functions of land use, and the dynamic coupling between land use and the superior territorial space functions, when constructing the classification system of territorial space. 2) The classification of territorial space consisted of 3 the first-, 7 the second-, and 14 the third-level space types. There were some differences in the final classification from the theoretical framework, indicating a significant influence from the spatiotemporal heterogeneity and the dynamic coupling between land use and the superior territorial space functions. As such, a better matching to the regional reality was achieved to avoid the deviation caused by the previous qualitative analysis. 3) The type relationship between the territorial space and land use was established to realize the "virtual" territorial space functions that expressed by "real" land use. Correspondingly, an effective way was provided to utilize the historical and achievement data. The proposed classification system can also be expected to complement the national territorial space planning and management in the similar regions, such as, the territorial space zoning, the delimitation of "three lines" ("three lines" represent the ecological protection redline, permanent capital farmland, and urban development boundary), land use planning, and sustainable land management.
