Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to compare the academic papers and journals between China and other countries, summarize the advantages and disadvantages in Chinese scienpngic and technological development, and put forward constructive strategies, which is expected to enhance the scienpngic and technological development in China. [Methods] On the basis of Web of Science, we compared the quantity and quality of SCI and SSCI academic papers and journals on different disciplines among six major countries—China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan. [Findings] China's academic outcomes in and international influence of papers on chemistry, mathematics, computer science, materials science, and engineering science are outstanding, while the products in medical science and social science are obviously insufficient. The development of academic journals in China obviously falls behind that in the United States, and also does not match the overall output of China's scienpngic research. [Conclusions] We should encourage the publication of high-quality papers and make up the gap by learning from the United States and the United Kingdom so as to speed up the construction of world-class international journals.
