Abstract: Objective To analyze the status of accidental injury in Nantong city and provide basis for making prevention and intervention measures of accidental injury.Methods The death cases of 2004-2006 in Nantong city were coded with the International Classification of Death Tenth Revision(ICD-10)and analyzed with Spss13.0 and Excel 2003.Results The crude mortality rate of accidental injury was for 44.412/100 000 and the SMR(standardized mortality ratio) was 35.139/100 000.The preceding five causes of accidental death were vehicle accident,suicide,drowning,accidental falling and traffic accident except vehicle,accounting for 67.12% of all accidental death.The vehicle accident death rate in creased with age and was higher in male than in female.The preceding five PYLL(potential years of life lost)of accidental death were vehicle accident,suicide,drowning,traffic accident except vehicle and accidental falling.The top five WYPLL (work potential years of life lost)were caused by vehicle accident,drowning,suicide,traffic accident except vehicle and accidental falling.Conclusion The main causes for accidental death of the residents in Nantong city were traffic accident,suicide and drowning.It is necessary to adopt effective measures in accidental injury prevention.
