In this paper, Mo-based amorphous and nanocrystalline coatings were prepared on 45 steel by air plasma spraying. Effect of heat treatment on phase structure, micro-hardness, and wear behavior was investigated. The experimental results showed that the content of amorphous within the coating reduced with the increasing of heat treatment temperature. The amorphous phase transform into nanocrystalline in the fist step. Then the nanocrystalline becomes much bigger with the heat treatment temperature increasing. The maximum hardness appeared in the coatings heat-treated at 750 °C due to high content amorphous phase turn into nanocrystalline. Wear was demonstrated qualitatively by scanning electron microscope. The coating shows high wear resistance than iron substrate.
