Medicinal plants are being used for the treatment of diseases for several decades. Jasminum grandiflorum plant is used in ayurveda for wound healing. The study was undertaken to investigate the effect of oil extract of Jasminum grandiflorum leaves on various wound models in albino rats. Study groups were as follows, Group 1: control (distilled water), Group 2: vehicle control (coconut oil), Group 3: standard (aloe vera), and Group 4: test (oil extract of Jasminum grandiflorum fresh leaves). In excision wound model, a 500 mm2 sized skin was excised with the help of sharp scissors from the back of the anesthetized rat. Burn wound model was induced by using hot molten wax to make a wound of 500 mm2. Percentage of wound contraction and duration required for epithelisation was observed. Test groups showed significant decrease in periods of epithelialization when compared to control and vehicle control groups in excision wound (p < 0.05) and burn wound (p < 0.001) models. Wound contraction rate was also increased significantly in test groups (p < 0.001) in both the models. Oil extract of Jasminum grandiflorum leaves has shown wound healing effects in burn wounds and excision wounds.
