CoTa2O6 photocatalyst was synthesized by a solid-state reaction method. The photophysical and photocatalytic properties of the photocatalyst were investigated. The experimental results revealed out that H2 could be photocatalytically evolved from aqueous CH3 OH solution with Pt-loaded photocatalyst powder and O2 from aqueous AgNO3 solution under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm). The average evolution rates of H2 and O2 were 0.91 and 1.14 μmol/h, respectively. The crystal and electron structures of the photocatalyst are discussed with respect to its photocatalytic properties.
