Le plafond de la première des deux Chambres de la Signature
au Vatican est orné de quatre médaillons circulaires dus au
pinceau de Raphaël (voy. p. 103) et qui représentent la Théolo-
gie, la Philosophie, la Jurisprudence et la Poésie. La reproduc-
tion de cette dernière composition nous fournit l'occasion d'of-
frir à nos lecteurs un premier spécimen de la. man ière de l'émule
d'Albert Durer (p. 57), du célèbre Marc-Antoine Raimondi
(p. 181), le prince de la gravure au burin. Cette pièce est exécutée
sur un dessin original de Raphaël, étude primitive à cadre rec-
tangulaire. — Comme effet décoratif, nous nous bornerons à
faire remarquer l'admirable silhouette se détachant sur un fond
laissé entièrement blanc par l'illustre graveur. — {Fac-similé.)

The Ceiling of the first of the two Camere délia Segnaturu
in the Vatican is ornamented with lour circular medallions in-
debted to Raphael's hrush (see p. 103) and wichrepresent Theo-
logy, PhUosophy, Jurisprudence, and Poetry. The reproduc-
tion of this last composition gives us an opportuni ty of offering
our readers a first spécimen of the style of the celebrated rival
of Albrecht Durer (p. 57), Marc Antonio Raimondi, the prince
of stroke engraving (p. 181). This pièce is executed from au
original drawing by Raphaël, a primitive study with a rectan-
gular frame. — As regards the décorative effect, we will con-
tent ourselves with remarkingtheadmirable silhouettedetaching
itself Irom a ground left entirely white by the illuslrious en-
graver. — {Foc simile.) — To be coutinued.
