Abstract

A series of impact tests for reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with carbon fiber strands (CFS) were carried out to identify their effects on the actual response of such RC beams. Besides describing experimental procedure in a detail way, the main characteristics of dynamic behaviors such as crack patterns, reaction force, and maximum displacement were analyzed and compared reasonably. In numerical analysis, the reliable assumptions of constitutive models and contact conditions of the beams were adopted adequately, and the results in simulation compared well to that in experiment. RC beams strengthened with CFS improved their flexural capacity under static and impact load.
