Abstract

Effects of water vapors on the sulfur poisoning behavior ofLSCF6428 cathode were investigated by comparison inperformance and impedance spectroscopic results ofLSCF6428/10GDC cells, which were tested at 1073 K (800 oC) for100 h under two conditions: (a) 1 ppm SO2 with dry air and (b) 1ppm SO2 with 1.2% humidified air. Results of performancedegradation with impedance spectroscopic data revealed that thespeed for rather heavy degradation is accelerated about 10 times inthe presence of water vapor. Detailed analyses on post-test sampleshow that the amount of formed SrSO4 during the same operationtime is much larger in the humidified air.
