 Barium enema brings us a lot of information, especially concerning the anatomy of the colon and rectum, and situation, size and morphology of anorectal lesions.

 Either CT or MRI is useful for evaluation of anorectal lesions. MRI is superior to CT for depicting the lesions, and especially for understanding the anatomical relationship between surrounding muscles and anal fistula related to Crohn's disease. However,MRI has a limitation in scan range. Therefore,CT examination is recommended to evaluate the presence of metastatic lesions or to detect active inflammation of the alimentary tract. The anatomy of the anal canal and supporting muscles is explained in Fig. 6.
