ABSTRACT
With the advent of broadband integrated services data network (B-ISDN) technologies such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks, packet-based multimedia (e.g., live audio and video, animation, and text) conferencing is becoming a viable means for achieving virtual proximity, which enables us to overcome the physical separation in space and time and to interact more effectively in our science and engineering endeavors. To bring about the reality of virtual proximity, many technical issues need to be addressed. One important issue is to develop an efficient multipoint audio and video control scheme. This paper discusses the related issues and outlines a solution.

Packet loss and jitter control for real-time MPEG video communications
Real-time video communication over a packet switching network is subject to packet loss and random delay variation called jitter. For compressed video, packet loss can cause significant performance degradation, and for continuous video regeneration, ...
The Packet Loss Effect on MPEG Video Transmission in Wireless Networks
AINA '06: Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications - Volume 01The purpose of this paper is to study the packet loss effect on MPEG video transmission quality in wireless networks. First, we consider the distribution of packet losses in wireless network, including distributed and burst packet losses. Besides, we ...
A handoff packet marker for diffserv in mobile IP-based networks with packet buffering
Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in mobile IP-based wireless networks where packet losses not related to network congestion occur frequently during inter-subnetwork handoffs by user mobility. To solve such a problem in the networks using ...
