Abstract

A probing method of surface perception was developed by using the Poggendorff configuration without physical contact between line elements and inducing element, where the condition of opaque surface perception could be detected from the discrepancy of the oblique lines in this configuration. In the former work, we proved that the nearer perceptual depth and opaque property of an inducing surface was a crucial factor for perceiving the discrepancy. On the basis of this fact, we developed the probing method of the condition of surface perception. We exhibited the direct evidences of the fact concretely by using the stereogram and the probing performances with the experimental data. The condition of opaque surface perception can be probed reliably; and the opaque and transparent property can be discriminated definitely.
