Artwork at BMA House marks NHS’s 70th anniversary
The amount the NHS spends on supporting us as patients throughout our lives is visualised in an interactive art installation at the BMA’s headquarters in London. The Long Run, a 9 m series of marble runs, is made up of medicine cabinets filled with test tubes, syringes, and surgical gloves, with urine bottles at the end to catch the marbles. Each cabinet represents an age group, and the length of time the marbles run is proportional to the average NHS spend for that age group. The installation, by artists working out of Goldsmiths, University of London, will be in place until 3 August.
Drug withdrawal
MHRA recalls blood pressure drug valsartan
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency withdrew the blood pressure drug valsartan after an investigation suggested that supplies from a facility in China were contaminated with an impurity that can cause cancer. All batches of medicines containing valsartan that were made by Dexcel Pharma and Accord Healthcare (previously known as Actavis Group) are being recalled as a precaution while the products are reviewed.
