Aaron Isaac Goodman (“Ronnie”) was the eldest son of workers in the Manchester garment trade. Despite spending two years in a fresh air home for “unhealthy” city children he won a scholarship to Manchester Grammar School and studied medicine at Manchester University. He was house physician at the Manchester Northern Hospital, then medical officer at the Manchester Ear Hospital, which led to a career in ENT surgery.
