John Hofmeyr retired to Reading in 1989 from Thurrock, Essex, where he had been a GP for nearly 25 years. Born in South Africa, he attended school in Cape Town and qualified at St Mary’s, London. He took great pride in being a graduate of this august establishment and was a member of the Rifle Club with Alexander Fleming during his undergraduate years there.
