Virgin Care to take over services for children and young people in Devon worth £132m

Private health company Virgin Care is about to secure a £132m (€168m; $205m) contract in southwest England that would extend its reach in providing core NHS care.

The company has been named preferred bidder by NHS Devon and Devon County Council to run integrated NHS and social care services for children and young people over a three year period.

A contract is expected to be awarded in the autumn after further negotiations, enabling Virgin Care to take over 1100 staff—mostly employed by NHS Devon—from 2013.
