David Verel died at Broomgrove Nursing Home in Sheffield. His physical health had been declining over the past nine years, but he was well cared for in the nursing home.
He was born in Wellingborough, Northants, and thereafter moved with his parents to Aberdeen. His father, Dr Raymond Verel OBE, FRCSEd, was a respected ear, nose, and throat surgeon for the Aberdeen Hospitals, but unfortunately he died from streptococcal septicaemia on 29 September 1920.
