Dissolution of Copper(II) Oxides in Sulfuric Acid Using Inhibition Additives of Ammonia and Complexones

  • Published:
Russian Metallurgy (Metally) Aims and scope

Abstract

The influence of ammonia and complexones (EDTA, DTPA) on the kinetics of dissolution of copper(II) oxides in aqueous solutions of sulfuric acid is studied. Additives of the complexones in acidic media are found to exhibit an inhibition effect decreasing the dissolution rate. The modeling of the dissolution processes shows that the inhibition effect of the complex-forming additives is related to a decrease in the concentration of intermediate compounds, which pass to the solution.
