Abstract

The acoustic path has been analyzed when carrying out the acceptance pulse echo inspection of the rail head. The influence of the parameters of the employed piezoelectric transducers on the sensitivity distribution for the sounding circuit used in the existing installations has been assessed, and the true sensitivity of detecting “nonmetallic inclusion” type flaws has been evaluated.
