Abstract
A theoretical and experimental method has been proposed for calculating the dependence of the combustion rate of granulated Ti + xC mixtures (0.5 ≤ x ≤ 1) in a convective mode on the key parameters. The dependence of the combustion rate on the nitrogen flow in the convective mode was shown to be quadratic and fundamentally different from the linear dependence according to the filtration combustion theory. The regions in which the conductive and convective modes exist when the volume of the concurrent nitrogen flow changes were determined. The volume of the gas flow corresponding to the transition of combustion wave propagation from conductive to convective mode was shown to increase with the combustion rate of the mixtures in the absence of a nitrogen flow, i.e., with the soot content in the mixture.
