Abstract

Upper Bajocian–Lower Bathonian perisphinctids are studied based on new collections from the upper part of the Upper Djangura Subformation in the interfluve of the Kuban and Urup rivers (Karachay-Cherkessia). Lobosphinctes costulatosus (Buckman) and Planisphinctes tenuissimus (Siemiradzki) are redescribed, and P. pirkli Mitta, sp. nov. is described; shells of Lobosphinctes loczyi (Papp) are identified. These taxa, found ex situ, are confined to the Densicosta and Bomfordi Subzones of the Upper Bajocian Parkinsoni Zone. Lobosphinctes dzhissaensis Mitta, sp. nov. is described from the Lower Bathonian (Zigzag Zone, Beds with Oraniceras scythicum).

Notes

  1. Subsequently, the name daghestanicus, after revision of the collection of original samples to Papp's article, was attributed to the synonymy of Prorsisphinctes loczyi (Papp) (Galacz and Szente, 2008).

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The fieldwork on outcrops of the Bajocian-Bathonian boundary beds in Karachay-Cherkessia, was for several years carried out by O. Nagel (Radeberg, Germany), S. Gräbenstein (Bodelshausen, Germany), V. Pirkl (Gerlingen, Germany), E.A. Mitta (Moscow) and many other friends and colleagues from Russia and abroad. V.V. Kosov (Moscow) kindly assisted in the preparation of some of the specimens for the paper. V. Dietze (Nördlingen, Germany) sent for comparison photographs of ammonite shells on the topic of the work, including specimens published by S. Buckman. The photographs were taken by S.V. Bagirov (PIN RAS). The authors are sincerely grateful to all those who contributed to the preparation of this work.
