Abstract

A new species of hermit crab (Paguroidea, Paguridae), Pagurus haasei, is described from the erratic ‘Sternberger Gestein’, of Late Oligocene (Chattian) age, in northern Germany. The new species is the first Oligocene paguroid from Germany, the second member of the genus on record for the Oligocene Period and the seventh paguroid species of this age known worldwide.
