Abstract

According to the character structural features, such as fixed width of character and proportion relationship of character spacing, a novel method for characters segmentation of vehicle license plate based on projection is proposed. The algorithm can not only locate the optimal segmentation point between characters quickly, but also remove the interference of image noises and license plate frame. The experimental results show the good performance of the segmentation algorithm and it can be used with all kinds of license plate.
