Europlacer is launching the latest addition to its Xpress series of SMT placers, the Xpress 40 (Plate 1). This new system was conceived originally to satisfy specific customer requests from the Far East where both very high throughput and flexibility were required in a single machine solution. Initial interest has also been strong from various "western" assemblers needing an intelligent and compact "volume" placer that can be rapidly set-up and re-configured.

The Xpress 40 combines ultra high throughput together with a very broad component handling capability, including 0201s, CSPs and very large devices right up to 100 mm components down to 0.3 mm pitch. The system incorporates four rotary turrets, each equipped with eight nozzles enabling it to achieve a placement tact time of 0.09 s (equivalent to 40,000 cph cycle rate).

The Xpress 40 boasts one hundred and eighty four 8 mm feeder positions, and features the truly intelligent feeder technology which is utilised across the range of Europlacer’s SMT placers. Whether using quick-load single feeders or full feeder trolley changeover every feeder location is fully programmable with component and inventory data. Once the feeders are loaded this information is automatically recognised by the machine which helps make set-up and changeover a very fast and simple process.
